This project is, officially, dead.
I gave up on this game a long time ago, but realised I hadn't done a postmortem post yet.
Condition: Not much content. The gameplay is bad and buggy, textures a mess. Music quite nice though cuts awkwardly between rooms.
Time of death: 2 years ago.
Cause of death:
Well, that's a tough one to answer.
I became disillusioned with the project when I updated to GMS2.3 - a newer version of GameMaker Studio 2, the game engine I used to make the project. The auto-importer couldn't account for the fact that I'd used slightly silly methods which worked in the old version but would break several things in the new version. Thinking it was a bug, I submitted a help ticket to YoYo Games and they basically told me I was bad. They weren't too wrong.
After fixing the project, I tried working on level design, but realised that what I was working with was useless. Weird blur caused by default movement in the engine, along with the limitations of my simple and buggy movement system, made anything I created look bad. Additionally, I couldn't think of clever level designs in the vertical format I had chosen. Silly me! I should've made a top-down game.
I can't quite remember what happened next. It was a while ago.
Anyway, time to update the project page and finally put this game to rest. I'll definitely revisit the pirate sci-fi genre if I ever make single-player games in the future.
